On the stove
  1. 1. In a stewpot half-filled with water, place a cooking ham, the contents of a beer bottle and ½ cup (125 ml) brown sugar.
  2. 2. Let simmer at medium-low heat for 2 hours, then remove from heat.
In the oven
  1. 1. Pour enough water in a deep oven dish to cover the bottom.
  2. 2. Add the ham, then pour ½ cup (125 ml) maple syrup on the meat.
  3. 3. Cover with aluminum foil and cook for 90 minutes at 300°F, checking regularly that contents don’t dry out and adding water as necessary.
After cooking
  1. 1. Place ham on a plate and let cool.
  2. 2. Once cool, slice ham into different thicknesses. Refrigerate any portions you plan on eating within two days; wrap and store the remainder in your freezer.
