The ham you recently prepared was delicious, and you couldn’t resist saving some leftovers. Why not take the opportunity to put something special inside the lunch boxes of your hungry little wolves?

Here are three ideas that are small on waste but big on taste.

Ham and cheese muffins With a dash of preparation, you can whip up some delicious cakes that can really come in handy when you’re short on time.

Simply serve with raw vegetables and dip. You can also store them in the freezer for more than a month! Read the recipe.

  1. 1. Cook tri-coloured pasta according to manufacturer’s instructions, then drain and let cool.
  2. 2. In a bowl, combine pasta, pieces of ham, cubes of cheddar, a diced tomato, and olives (optional).
  3. 3. Add in a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice, salted and peppered to taste, and mix well.
  4. 4. Place in an airtight container and refrigerate.

For a little variety, ask your children to add their favourite ingredients. Pickles, red peppers, green onions … the possibilities are endless!

  1. 1. On tortilla bread, spread cream cheese (to help keep food in place), mayonnaise or mustard.
  2. 2. Place thin slices of ham, slices of cheese to taste, and a leaf of lettuce.
  3. 3. Roll tortillas gently, so that you form compact rolls.
  4. 4. Wrap with plastic wrap, then refrigerate.

Depending on what your child likes, you can add sliced pickles or olives, pepper strips, etc.
